Of all the British establishments jn the west-indies it may, with out fear Of contradiction, be said, ' that we have given the least trouble to the mother-country, and required the least interference Of our GO vcrnment; and after having, with little or no assistance or protec tion, sprung from nothing to our present state Of comparative im portance, with regret and astonishment we find the country held up to Obloquy, the aid Of Government loudly Called for, the most ener getic measures declared necessary to be resorted to, the most sacred rights Of Britons about to be violated, and the laws of the country on the verge Of being altered without the consent Of the peo le, and all under the specious pretext Of sup ressing evils whic never existed; but which, from the letters of 00 one] Arthur to the Secretary of State (that have met the public eye, together with man others replete with injustice to us, which most probably never wi l), have in ccd our Government to believe that we are little better than barbarians, and that our Slaves are Sinking under the iron hand of Oppression.
